Kitchen sink suddenly won’t drain?

Hi there, first time poster here. I was hoping I might get some friendly advise regarding my kitchen sink issue. Firstly, there were no previous issues with the sink. The water would drain down quickly and I never had any backup. All of a sudden today the water wasn’t draining and I was getting some black bits coming up through the drain. I scooped out all the water I could and tried the plunger for a good 45 minutes, but it really wasn’t going anywhere. I tried some Drain-o (which I know isn’t always recommended, but again I don’t really have any experience with plumbing) let it sit for 15min and by the time I came back half the sink was filled with water which I thought was odd. I then took apart the P trap to investigate and there didn’t appear to be any clogs there (water ran straight though with no issues and so did my snake). So it would appear the issue was further back so I poked around a bit with a hanger and some small black clumps came out, but nothing significant in size. Put it all back together, ran the water and the problem was still the same. Before resorting to calling a plumber does anyone have any idea what the issue might be? Seems like I will have to go into the wall, I also live in a condo building if that is helpful at all. Would it be possible it’s a building issue? No one else in my building has had these issues to my knowledge. Thanks in advance. submitted by /u/ChocolateNek0 [link] [comments]
